SECU Foundation awarded the North Carolina Alliance for School Leadership Development an $80,000 grant to support the establishment of the Distinguished Principals Network (DPN), a collaborative effort to help increase North Carolina principals’ leadership capacity, promote principal retention and improve student performance. The SECU Foundation grant helps train and compensate program facilitators and deliver virtual learning and networking opportunities to principals in approximately 180 high-needs schools across the state. DPN enables school leaders to collaborate with peers and apply new strategies to address three key concerns elevated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Primary goals include: 1) raising achievement in reading and math; 2) seeking equity to reduce disparities in student success; and 3) supporting social and emotional well-being to create a thriving educational environment. DPN is a collaborative effort led by NC Alliance for School Leadership Development (NCASLD), the NC Principals and Assistant Principals’ Association (NCPAPA), and NC Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI).
