The SECU Foundation and Habitat for Humanity of North Carolina (HHNC) agreed on a joint initiative to expand affordable housing across North Carolina – the SECU Habitat Challenge, also known as the Mountains to the Sea Challenge – in 2015. SECU Foundation’s Challenge provided a significant commitment of nearly $11 million for HHNC and statewide Habitat affiliates to build one new or renovated Habitat home in each of the State’s 100 counties. This five year affordable housing project allowed Habitat for Humanity to build capacity while expanding its presence in counties where no Habitat home had ever been built before and resulted in 102 families experiencing home ownership.
