Launched in 2003, NC GreenPower was the first, statewide multi-utility renewable energy program of its kind in the nation. This landmark program provides an easy and effective opportunity to balance your impact on the environment by supporting Renewable Energy and Carbon Offsets.
Beginning in 2006, SECU Foundation partnered with NC GreenPower on various initiatives to support cleaner, renewable energy alternatives for North Carolina, including the funding of 1 kilowatt hour of Renewable Energy on behalf of each SECU member, or 1,500,000 kWh of green electricity annually for four years. Our commitment has the environmental equivalent of 240,000 trees planted or 1,215,000 pounds of coal not consumed. This funding was renewed in 2010 and in 2013.
