North Carolina Zoo
Approved by Board of Directors: July 2022
SECU Foundation awarded a $2 million grant to the North Carolina Zoological Society to support a facility expansion at the NC Zoo. The grant will enable the Zoo to increase their capacity for education and outreach through the SECU Visitor View Pavilion and Classroom, the centerpiece of the new Asia habitat complex. The Pavilion and Classroom will offer visitors opportunities for interactive learning and observation of Komodo dragons, gibbons, king cobras, and other species of the Asia habitat. The NC Zoo is the world’s largest natural habitat zoological park and funding from SECU Foundation and the habitat expansion will further enhance their education and conservation efforts. The new habitat and facilities are expected to open to the public in 2026.
